Ham and Cheese Panini
"Panini" is an Italian word for "sandwiches". Most have melted cheese along with other sandwich toppings, and can be cooked in a panini press or on a stove top.
Steps
1. Top 2 of the bread slices with 2 slices of cheese, half of the ham, and another 2 slices of cheese. Add the last pieces of bread on top. Spread 1 tablespoon of the butter on the top of the sandwiches, and 1 tablespoon of butter on the bottom of each.
2. If using a panini press: preheat to 400* F (200* C), place the panini into the press, and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes.
If using a frying pan: Heat a 12-inch frying pan over medium heat. Cook turning the sandwich once, until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes for each side. Use a spatula to gently press down on the panini once or twice while it is cooking.
3. Once the panini is cooked, transfer the panini to a cutting board using a spatula. Let it cool for a little bit, and cut it in half diagonally. Serve warm.
