Snickerdoodles
The name of these delicious cookies originated in 19th-century New England. Snickerdoodles are a great holiday cookie.
Steps
1. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the butter on medium to high speed with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add the 1 cup of sugar, cream of tartar, and baking soda. Beat until combined. Beat in the egg and vanilla until combined, then add the flour. If you can't get all of the flour combined using the mixer, take a wooden spoon and stir in any remaining flour. Cover and chill for one hour.
2. Combine the cinnamon and the 2 tablespoons of sugar in a small bowl. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls, and roll them in the sugar mixture to coat. Place them about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake for 10-11 minutes in a 350* F oven, or until the edges of the cookies are golden.
